“The big benefit is just knowing that Rev has extreme expertise and we don't have to worry about making sure the names are accurate or the jargon is accurate or if it's going to successfully upload to our YouTube videos.”

Customer Challenges

Wasted Time on YouTube Caption Corrections

Educating people about the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle is enough of a challenge to start. And Sierra Kohlruss’ team had to take into account the audience’s comfort with content consumption. “Given the majority of our products are pure content, we heavily rely on captioning services for our video content,” Kohlruss said, “as well as transcription services so that customers can read along with the content that’s being discussed.”

Their lessons were originally captioned through YouTube’s automated captions, which are very inaccurate. Kohlruss and her team had to manually check the captions on each video they posted. “Before Rev we were relying on YouTube default captions, depending on the video,” Kohlruss said. “It was hard to trust that the YouTube default captions were accurate.” This concern was taking away from more creative functions the team could be focusing on.

Beyond captions, Food Revolution Network bases its business model on creating high-quality content to educate and promote a healthy lifestyle from leading sources. Every interview or lesson video is paired with a transcript. Much of that video content contains specific, technical terminology from medical experts so accuracy was always at the top of the requirements list.

“Every piece of content that we give out, we also like to have a transcription of that content,” Kohlruss said. “Because the majority of our content is either video-based or interview-based, we want to give our audience a transcript for them to take notes, highlight, and read along as well.” And now Food Revolution Network is looking to expand that audience into new languages, without overloading the content creation team.

“Without Rev, we wouldn't have been able to start to expand into a new demographic, which is the Spanish-speaking communities across the world because we are starting to integrate Spanish subtitles in our videos.” –Sierra Kohlruss, Head of Operations

Accurate Content, Happy Audiences

Once they implemented Rev, Kohlruss’ team saw a massive reduction in their caption proofreading time. “After Rev, we literally just upload the file and then we know it's going to be uploaded to YouTube. And based on the accuracy, we very minimally proofread caption files so we've saved a lot  of time.” Plus, those video files are more quickly distributed to their audience due to Rev’s integrations with YouTube, Vimeo, and Zapier.

Kohlruss appreciates the trust she can place in Rev’s services, especially when it comes to accuracy. “I like that feature in Rev where you can actually specify what your guest speaker names are, as well as the glossary option too.” Her team utilizes this feature to ensure their speakers’ scientific jargon is captured accurately to best inform their customers.

Subtitled Success Stories

Food Revolution Network began with just an English-speaking audience for their plant-based lifestyle advocacy. Now, they have recently begun offering their videos with global subtitles and not just English captions. After seeing success with Spanish subtitles, her team is looking to expand into other languages such as French, and Mandarin — all made possible through easy integration with Rev.

Internal Deeper Discussions, Clearer Action Items

Finally, a good organization practices what they preach, and Food Revolution Network is no exception. Once they saw how much transcription was benefiting their customers, they employed it in their internal meetings. That way, they can focus on the discussion instead of trying to take notes.

“We can actually stay focused on the meeting itself during the meeting, and really be intentionally there, as well as trust that we'll have someone who captures action items based on the accurate transcription of Rev,” Kohlruss said.
