As a full service distribution company, MVD exclusively represents thousands of audio and visual products for DVD, Blu-ray, CD, and vinyl across the world. The company also has a huge catalog of digital rights, which they distribute to popular streaming platforms like Amazon, iTunes, Fandango, Tubi, and more.

To meet the requirements for these platforms, MVD must submit closed caption files with their films, and the quality standards for these captions are very high. If the caption files aren’t up to snuff, the digital platform won’t accept the file and kick it back to MVD.

Eliminating Caption Errors at Scale

MVD’s small but incredibly successful team distributes about 100 feature films to digital platforms per month. MVD Asset Manager Tiffany Bafile is one of the people responsible for managing the distribution workflow and collecting the necessary assets for each film.

MVD isn’t just responsible for distributing the films — the company also handles the affiliated trailers, captions, artwork, and other promotional materials. 

“We manage the chaos of making sure that titles are going live in the moment and then also prepping for down the road,” she said. “It’s a bit of a roller coaster of managing it all and ensuring that everything is on time.”

Bafile is one of two people at MVD who handle issues with captions if a platform rejects a film for quality reasons. When she and the team started running into issues with file kickbacks from small spelling mistakes and placement issues, she began paying closer attention to the quality of their caption files. But because the team is so small, quality review sometimes took hours. 

“There were some long afternoons for me to just go through and review the captions,” she said. “I would spot check probably one to two hours a couple of days a week if I noticed something was looking off or we had some sort of kickback from a streaming platform.”
